"Technology
Connecting Mathematics"
The
8th Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics (ATCM2003) aims to provide an
interdisciplinary forum for teachers, researchers, educators and decision makers
around the world in the fields of mathematics and mathematical sciences. It
also provides a venue for researchers and developers of computer technology
to present their results in using technology in both basic research and pedagogical
research, and to exchange ideas and information in their latest developments.
The conference will cover a broad range of topics on the relevancy of technology
in mathematical research and teaching. The topics include, but are not limited

Special
Session I:
Curriculum Issues on Mathematics with Technology Around the World
This panel discussion
will provide a forum for experts from different parts of the world to
share their opinions on technology use in mathematics curriculum. Issues
such as the effects of technology in lecture delivery, students’
learning environment, examinations and assessment will be discussed. Audience
is encouraged to interact with the panel.
Special
Session II:
Enabling Technology for Dynamic Mathematics Content Delivery
This special session
will provide an overview of technology that enables the dynamic contents
of the Web. Educators and technologists are faced with a number of issues
in order to do the same for mathematics contents and more. Emerging Web
technology is paving the way for dynamic-mathematics content delivery
as mathematical services. Technology such as MML, XML, & Web Services
will be discussed. Questions & Answers will be provided at the end
of the session.

Abstract
Submission is now open. Use this link to submit your abstract. Steps in submitting
your abstract usually go like this:
- You
must have registered with us first (if you have not registered, then do so
FOR ALL AUTHORS individually at the submission page).
- Logon
to the submission system.
- Follow
the instructions (select the number of authors then request the submission
form; key in the title and abstract body).
- A
reference number will be assigned. Please note the reference number. The first
author will receive an acknowledgement email in a short time. You should be
able to check the status of your submission if you log on next time.
- Your
abstract will be reviewed by IPC and recommendation, if so decided, for full
paper submission will be sent.
- Logoff.

Note that even
though you may have a full paper to submit, please do first submit your abstract
for review and processing.

submissions must be preceded by an abstract submission, and accompanied
with a 'reference number' (e.g., 2003A098) which is assigned when an abstract
submission is accepted via the Web submission link.
Any full paper submission that does not satisfy this requirement will be
automatically dropped from consideration. No acknowledgement will be sent
to the author(s). |

It is strongly suggested that the manuscript should be prepared according
to the guidelines posted below. Each
full paper should not exceed ten single-spaced pages. See full paper formatting

to Submit |
An electronic
copy should be submitted via email to
talwis@selu.edu and sungchi@atcminc.com. In the email you must put the
reference number in the subject line (e.g., 2003A123) to ensure propoer
proecessing by our system. |
| Process |
All
full papers will be put under peer review. Based on recommendations, the
editorial board will notify the author(s) on the acceptance status accordingly.
Accepted papers that meet the formatting guideline given below AND are presented
at ATCM 2003 will be compiled in both the hardcopy and electronic versions
of the Proceedings. The hard copy Proceedings will be distributed to registered
participants at the conference. |

Publication Guidelines for Accepted Full
Papers |
|
Full papers
will be reviewed. For reviewed and accepted full papers,
publication in the Proceedings will follow if the paper is presented at
the conference, and the following guidelines must be
followed. Manuscripts that fail to use the following format in your
preparation will not be published.
- Two camera-ready
copies of the manuscript must be submitted on A4 white paper. The manuscript
must be printed with a laser printer of resolution at least at 600 DPI.
Do not staple. Do not fold. Only on-time receipt of
this hard copy manuscript has guarantee of its appearancein the proceedings.
- A soft
copy of the same manuscript in PDF must be sent, with the same deadline
as the hardcopy, to BOTH email accounts: sungchi@atcminc.com & schu@rni.net;
on-time receipt of this soft copy manuscript, signed copyright statement
and paid registration will ensure the inclusion of the manuscript
in the electronic Proceedings, provided all the other formatting guidelines
are met.
Guidelines
Each manuscript
must meet the following guidelines before it will be processed for inclusion
in the Proceedings. Manuscripts that do not meet these guidelines will
be returned and must be appropriately modified before the time deadline
for camera-ready submission.
- No
page number should be printed. Instead, page
numbers must be written using
a soft lead pencil on the back of each page (on both hard copies
submitted) along with your paper reference number (e.g., 2003P100).
- Manuscript
must have an abstract.
- Paper
title: 20 pt Times Roman, centered
- Authors'
names and affiliations: 14 pt Times Roman, centered
- Section
headings: 14 pt Times Roman Bold, left-justified
- Subsection
headings: 12 pt Times Roman Bold, left-justified
- Body
text: 12 pt Times Roman, justified single-line spacing
- Margins
must be set based on A4 paper size (210 x 297 mm).
Left and right margins must be set at 2 cm;
top and bottom margins must be set at 3.2 cm;
any text or figure that appears outside of this margin is not printable,
thus the manuscript cannot be included for printing.
- Tables
and Figures must be properly captioned and numbered. These should be
placed as close as practicable to the first reference in the text. About
10mm should be left clear above and below each figure and table.
For
Figures, the caption should appear at the foot of the figure. For Tables,
the caption should appear immediately above the table.
- References
must be cited properly in the text of the article.
- Paper
length is limited to a maximum of 10 pages. A fee will be charged for
any paper that exceeds the paper length limit.

copy must be postmarked no later than October 10, 2003

ATCM2003 will provide spaces during the period of the conference
for software, hardware, calculator companies, and the book publishers to display
their latest products or books in the field of mathematical sciences. The fee
for one exhibition area of three feet by nine feet is US$500. The exhibition
fee will include a conference registration fee for one person. Please note that
space for such display is limited. To reserve an exhibition area at ATCM2003,
please notify Dr. Sung-Chi Chu (sungchi@atcminc.com) of your need and send a

About Hsin-Chu
Hsin-Chu
is recognized as a science town in Taiwan, it is near Hsin-Chu Science-Based
Industrial Park and it contains many national and private institutes. Chung
Hua University is located in the suburb of Hsin-Chu which is named as Hsian
Shann. Hsin-Chu is 100 km south-west of Taipei and 70 km south of The Chiang
Kai-Shek(CKS) International Airport. We have bus service between The CKS International
Airport and Hsin-Chu. We have also highway bus service between Taipei and Hsin-Chu,
which is very frequent and convenient.
